Scarlet Tides is the second book in The Moontide Quartet by David Hair. The book has a large cast of complex and well-developed characters, realistic adult language, and is set in a richly established world with enough shades of our own world to provide a solid frame of reference without the need for long expositions of world-building. The story is an epic fantasy tale of Conspiracies, murder, failure, and redemption with enough magic, betrayal, conquering kingdoms, falling kingdoms, assassinations, lack of morals, and moral conflict to make for an engrossing and compelling read. While there were some elements that the reviewer struggled with, overall, the book hit all the right notes for an epic fantasy novel. Despite the series having been around since 2012, it has not received the press it deserves, but is worth reading.
